Humpback Rocks Milepost 5.8

Along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia at Mile Post 5.8 you'll come to Humpback Rocks, a gigantic rock outcropping which served as a place of significance along the historic Howardsville Turnpike, which existed in the 1840s for wagons. Hints and traces of the trail can still be seen from this location today. Here you'll find the Outdoor Farm Museum which showcases the history of the settlers in the area. It is adjacent to the Humpback Rocks Visitors Center. The creators of the parkway, took several historic buildings from the surrounding region and gathered them here in what is now the Outdoor Farm Museum.

If you visit, you can tour and check out a single-room log cabin, and numerous outbuildings that represent various aspects of architecture in the late 1800's that was prominent in the area. Historical actors and interpreters features historical re-creations of skills such as weaving, basket making, gardening and other life style elements of the settling farmers that populated the area.
