Food AND Entertainment at the Mockingbird in Staunton

The décor screams chi chi and trendy, terms usually synonymous with expensive and exclusive. However, you’ll find that The Mockingbird Artisan Fare & Roots Music is not only affordable but also unpretentious. Mockingbird’s proprietor Wade Luhn artfully infuses chic with down-to-earth.

Its eclectic menu is a contradiction in terms. Looking at it, one might easily assume Executive Chef Lee Gregory made some typos. Surely dishes this hip and mouthwatering cost more than their advertised prices. Perhaps this is true in Los Angeles, Las Vegas or New York City, but not true in downtown Staunton. This all is part of the charm and only the first in a series of dichotomies you’ll notice at the Mockingbird.

Dine on house-made Gnocchi in a mushroom and truffle oil Bolognese or traditional Mac & Cheese with oysters, Gruyere cheese and Kit’s Ham paired with a 2007 Protocolo Termpranillo, while listening to local bluegrass, blues or country music.

Many of the bands hired by The Mockingbird are recording artists whose music can be heard on the radio. Many have received a lot of “buzz” and playing at the Mockingbird is a way to give back to the community they all love so dearly. Prices vary, so best to check their website for a schedule of events. http://www.mockingbird123.com or call them at: (540) 213-8777.

Every Wednesday is local mic night at the Mockingbird. Hosted by Nathan Moore, it’s an opportunity to be discovered or hear local talent as they attempt discovery. On those nights admission is free and time at the mic is on a first come basis.

Whether you are visiting for a day, a week or longer, you owe it to yourself to check out The Mockingbird Artisan Fare & Roots Music. Hear local music, choose a few dishes from their tantalizing menu, and enjoy a glass of red or white wine or maybe a Mid-Atlantic beer. But whatever you eat or drink, it’s most important that you’re having a great time!
