Horseback Riding in the Blue Ridge Mountains

At Cabin Creekwood, we get a lot of requests for trail rides.  We’ve worked with two stables over the years, and both have received consistently high reviews from our guests.

Star B Stables is located in the Shenandoah Valley near Staunton, with incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the valley itself.  Owned and operated by Faye Bartley, Star B has a stable full of well trained and well mannered horses, perfect for those who don’t ride on a regular basis.  When our daughter Jordan was 6, we went on a trail ride with Faye, and Jordan was given her very own horse to ride!  The horse was very gentle, and gave her no problems at all.

The other stable we frequently recommend is Appalachian Horse Adventures.  They are located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Montebello.  The rides here skirt the George Washington National Forest, with good opportunities to see the mountain woodlands and look for wildlife.  We recently had honeymooners who did a trail ride while staying with us, and here’s what Paulette had to say:

First of all i wish to tell you how wonderful our stay at Logwood cabin was.  Our honeymoon was perfect from start to finish.  Leaving was very hard.  Our final day we spent on a trail ride on the Appalachian Trail, leaving from the general store where everyone was warm and friendly as everyone else we encountered on our trip.  The ride was stunning, I would recommend this to everyone who comes.  My husband who had never ridden was given such a nice horse he can’t wait to return.  So whether you have ridden all your life such as I or never have, they have the horse for you.  The guide Denton was very knowledgeable and fun to be with, I too can’t wait to return.  Thank you again.  – Richard & Paulette Smith
