There are numerous Virginia Hiking Trails, biking trails, and horseback riding trails to choose from, and places like Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness, St. Mary’s Wilderness and the Shenandoah National Park are great places to watch for birds and other wildlife. Betsey Bell Wilderness Park
This park is located in Staunton Virginia and offers fantastic views of the Shenandoah Valley. Hike up to the summit of the mountain and look out from the observation platform (elevation 1,959 feet), or enjoy a picnic at the facilities located at the top. The Virginia Hiking Trails offer a great chance to see the area’s wildlife, and mountain bikers love this spot as it has some incredibly tough hill climbs. Confederate Breastworks Trail on Shenandoah Mountain
Located just west of Ramsey’s Draft this Virginia Hiking Trail takes hikers through some historically significant areas including some Civil War battlefields. Offering plenty for hikers to see and do, this trail runs north and south along the crest of the mountain. You can hike to the summit of Shenandoah Mountain which sits at an elevation of about 3,500 feet and watch the native hawks fly over. Many of the trails lead down to Ramsey’s Draft. Gypsy Hill Park
Gypsy Hill Park is a 214 acre park where a plethora of outdoor fun can be had. Included in its facilities are a public golf course, football and baseball stadiums, a gym, a beautiful lake, two playgrounds, three youth baseball fields, a public swimming pool, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, an adorable Mini Train ride for kids, and a modest pavilion with several areas for a stage. Located at 600 Churchville Avenue in Staunton Virginia, Gypsy Hill Park is a great Staunton Virginia park that everyone will love.

Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness
Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness is located in the George Washington National Forest and is a gorgeous natural area located on the eastern side of Shenandoah Mountain. This vast mountain land is one of the largest tracts of virgin forest left in the Eastern United States and is a great place to see some native hardwoods and Hemlocks, and more unusual varieties like the tulip poplar of basswood. Visitors to Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness area regularly report seeing deer, bear, and other native mammals that inhabit our beautiful Virginia Mountains. Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro
The Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro is located at the south end of Magnolia Avenue, and features a 85 acres of outdoor entertainment.  The park features both a 50 meter swimming pool as well as a baby pool.  There are also 4 baseball fields, 3 soccer fields, 5 tennis courts, a basketball court, picnic areas, and more.

Saint Mary’s Wilderness
Saint Mary’s Wilderness area is a huge tract of mountain land, with over 9,835 acres being preserved and maintained. Known as the largest Virginia Wilderness on National Forest land, Saint Mary’s elevation ranges from 1,700 feet to 3,400 feet and includes over 17 miles of Virginia Hiking Trails. Filled with numerous mountain brooks and beautiful mountain streams, this region is a great place to enjoy trout fishing as well.

Shenandoah National Park
The Shenandoah National Park straddles a beautiful section of peaks in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is filled with beautiful landscapes created by the Shenandoah River, which flows through the valley. The park is a vast area and Skyline Drive, a beautiful scenic Virginia driving road, is the only road that winds through the Shenandoah National Park. The park has over 500 miles of Virginia Hiking Trails and includes over 101 miles of Appalachian Trail hikes. Many of these Virginia Hiking Trails lead to panoramic views, waterfalls, and great spots to see deer, black bears and wild turkeys.

Virginia Safari Park
The Virginia Safari Park opened in the spring of 2000 with the goal of showing people wild animals in a more natural environment than had been available.  There are no barred exhibits, the animals are free to roam as they please.  Visitors can interact with the animals by feeding them with specialty grains provided by the park.  You can even climb up high and feed giraffes!
