Located in the George Washington National Forest, less than 5 miles from the
Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway is a pristine, 25 acre lake. Known as the hidden
jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sherando Lake is spring fed and surrounded by
stunning mountain peaks and landscapes.
Over the decades Sherando Lake has thrived as a vacation haven and getaway spot
as the lake has several recreation areas, hiking trails, and a nice sandy beach
for children to enjoy. If you go swimming at Sherando Lake Virginia please be
sure to be careful, and keep a close eye on small children as there are no
lifeguards staffed at the lake.
Campsites
and restroom facilities dot the shoreline and there are many places to put your
boat in. The recreation areas contain many picnic tables, grills and a covered
shelter area, in addition to the large outdoor amphitheater that hosts special
events in the summer. Anglers visiting Sherando Lake should bring their rods and
reels as the lake is home to various large game fish land several varieties of
trout, bass, bluegill, and catfish.
Sherando Lake is not the only lake in the area. In the 1960’s Back Creek was
dammed in order to control floods and this created the 7 acre Upper Sherando Lake, which also is nice for boating, fishing, and swimming.
