Winter on the Blue Ridge

Here at Cabin Creekwood we’ve been waiting for the winter season all year! We are beyond thrilled to share our jewel in the Blue Ridge  with you, our loyal followers.

We can't wait to see you on slopes or hiking in the Winter Wonderland!

The winter is here. The air is crisp with an occasional snow. Nearby Wintergreen is currently open daily for the 2025-2026 season. So why not book a cabin and take the kids tubing, get in a little snowboarding, or just ski the slopes.  What would be better than hanging around the fireplace with your family or friends enjoying  a Hot Toddy, a nice cup Cocoa, or even a warm Spiced Apple Cider.  Who doesn't get a chuckle watching their pup chasing snowflakes or children making Snow Angels. Did you know the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed to vehicular traffic at the first snow, making it the perfect scenic hike.  Imagine taking in the majestic snow covered views of the magnificent  mountains and valleys that surround our picturesque cabins.

Hiking: Trails like the Appalachian Trail, along with other local trails offer beautiful views and a chance to experience the pristine nature up close.

Photography: The snow covered landscapes provide excellent opportunities for photographers.

Festivals: Many towns host Winter Holiday festivals celebrating the most wonderful time of the year , featuring local crafts, food, and music.

Wine Tours: The region is home to several wineries that offer tastings and tours, often with beautiful views of the vineyards against the Winter backdrop.

Those of you who are inclined to be physical, we are close to many hiking trails and Ski slopes, additionally the Appalachian trail and Luray Caverns remain open and accessible all year long

 First off, don’t miss the Shenandoah National Park. It’s a gem tucked away in the heart of the mountains. You can hike to waterfalls, watch the wildlife, and if you’re feeling adventurous, take a night hike under the stars. The park offers a variety of trails for every skill level, from leisurely strolls to challenging climbs. (check with SNP concerning conditions as they close skyline drive when snow covered, hiking in is always an option and winter camping at the various shelters is unlike any experience you have ever had) Make sure to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic vistas from one of the many overlooks. You might even spot a black bear or a majestic deer, reminding you of the untouched beauty that still exists in this world.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, check out the local farmers’ markets. The smells of fresh produce and the sound of live music fill the air as you wander through rows of colorful fruits and veggies, handmade crafts, and artisanal goods. It’s a great way to support the community and get a taste of the local flavor. Plus, you can stock up on supplies for your hiking trips or find ingredients for a delicious summer repast.

For a more cultural experience, the cities of Harrisonburg and Charlottesville are just a short drive away is known for its historic architecture, and nearby Melrose Caverns, while Charlottesville boasts Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson and UVA.
