How To See the Best Colors of Fall Foliage

Fall Foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains – it just doesn’t get any better than that!  The autumn colors are in full swing, and the crisp cool nights make it really feel like fall.

We often have people ask “When is the peak?” as if it can be narrowed down to a specific day.  The reality is, different varieties of trees peak differently, and even different locations within just a few short miles peak at different times.  So many factors are involved, including the type of tree (which I’ve already mentioned), the elevation, the direction the slope faces, and so much more.

So instead of trying to figure out the “day” to come and see the peak colors, the best way to experience the colors of fall is to visit sometime between the first weekend in October through the end of the month, and spend your time driving.  That way you’ll cover lots of territory.  Doing so, you’ll find some pockets of color that are way more brilliant than others, and you’re sure to see the best that our Virginia fall foliage has to offer.
