Kayaking on the South River

For an enjoyable evening of paddling in Virginia, consider putting kayaks in at the Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro.  With easy access to the water, this gently flowing river makes for light paddling both upstream and down.  The total distance accessible at this point is about a mile, with the river getting quite shallow as you go upstream, and a dam crossing the river as you head further downstream.  Part of the stretch makes it hard to believe you’re in a city at all, with the trees lining the riverbanks and forming a partial canopy.
