The downtown Main Street area of Staunton, Virginia was named by Travel + Leisure magazine as one of “America’s Greatest Main Streets”. Stately, red brick buildings define Staunton and the efforts of preservationists in town have not gone unnoticed. Each year the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Great American Main Streets Awards and the American Planning Association’s Great Places in America: Streets campaigns and efforts annually recognize community organizers and towns that have put forth an important effort in preserving some of loveliest main street areas and downtown’s in the U.S. The magazine made good use of these campaigns and narrowed the lists down even more and spotlighted it’s favorite Main Streets and Staunton made the cut in 2012. We love Staunton and many visitors that stay in our cabins in Virginia love to venture over to this town and enjoy its amenities.
