Fishing, Hiking, and Horseback Riding are three of the most popular activites that guests enjoy while staying in a Virginia Vacation Cabin, and at the cabins and cottages of Cabin Creekwood, all three are available nearby with easy access.
Fishing in the mountains of Virginia usually brings to mind the elusive trout. With Sherando Lake just a mile away, and Back Creek meandering through and near our property, trout fishing is available in both a lake setting and a mountain stream. You can fish for trout with bait, spinners, or even fly rods. In fact, fly fishing has become so popular that we now have a Virginia Fly Fishing Festival in Waynesboro every spring! Of course, many other species of fish are available as well, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, and catfish.
Hiking trails abound near our Virginia Cabin Rentals. Close by, Sherando Lake offers trails catering to a wide variety of fitness levels, from a fairly level stroll around the lake, to more difficult trails leading to overlooks with beautiful views of the lake from high in the mountains. Also nearby is the moderate White Rock Falls Trail, leading to an incredibly beautiful waterfall less than a mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This trailhead can be accessed at milepost 19.9. If a strenuous hike to incredible views is on your list, try Humpback Rocks located on the Blue Ridge Parkway around milepost 6, or our personal favorite, Spy Rock near the Montebello Fish Hatchery. Also near Montebello is the world-renowned Crabtree Falls, the tallest cascade east of the Mississippi River.
Want to explore the mountains but not do the walking? A trail ride is the ticket for you! Several local stables offer horseback riding through the Virginia Mountains. We’ve enjoyed Star B Stables, with horses gentle enough that even our 6-year old daughter was comfortable! Another option is the Rhodes Farm Stables at Wintergreen. And still a third is a new stable located near Crabtree Falls. They offer the typical short rides, but also extended rides up into the mountains.
So next time you want to visit the mountains, give us a call. Not only will we get you settled into your very own private vacation rental cabin, but we’ll give you a hand in planning your activities as well!
